CLASS 3A FIRST ROUND


Underwood 49, Carlisle 33

Meghan Brue scored 23 points to lead fourth-ranked Underwood to a 49-33 victory over Carlisle in a Class 2A first round game. The Eagles, making their state tournament debut, overcame from state tournament jitters early in the first quarter before going on a 10-3 run in the last 1:56 take a 20-13 first quarter lead and never trailed. Underwood's defense clamped down on Carlisle in the second half, holding the Wildcats to just nine second half points. In addition to Brue's 23, Jamie Boyd scored 11 points and 12 rebounds while teammate Pamela Masker added seven assists. Sarah Flaws scored 12 points with seven rebounds to lead Carlisle, who ends its season at 18-8. Underwood improves to 24-2 and faces top-ranked Mid-Prairie in the Class 2A semifinals 1 p.m. Friday.
