Sarah Wernimont tied a Class 3A record by scoring 30 points to lead Atlantic to a 59-34 victory over Webster City in a Class 3A first round match-up.
Wernimont was 10-of-13 from the field and 10-of-10 from the free throw to tie Washington's Jenny Childress, who scored 30 against Denison in a 1994 game. Wernimont also added 10 rebounds for the Trojanns.
Atlantic jumped all over Webster City early, leading 20-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Lynx crept to within six early in the second half before Atlantic scored 17 unanswered points to put the game away.
Jamie Hoegh added 15 points and eight rebounds for Atlantic, who was a perfect 17-of-17 from the free throw line. The Trojanns also outrebounded Webster City, 33-22.
Janelle Cross led Webster City with 11 points.
Atlantic (24-1), who is now 8-0 in first round state tournament games, advances to the Class 3A semifinals to face Pella at 8 p.m. Thursday.
Webster City ends its season at 15-10.
