English Valleys 49, Fort Madison Aquinas 46



Katie Jensen's three-pointer at the buzzer lifted top-ranked English Valleys to a 49-46 victory over Fort Madison Aquinas in Class 1A first round game.

Jensen's heroics highlighted a furious rally by the top-ranked Bears. English Valleys trailed 44-37 with 1:47 remaining. The Bears then outsscored Aquinas 12-2 for the remainder of the game. Jordan Schmitt's lay-up with 27 seconds remaining tied the score at 46-46. Schmitt then caused a Aquinas turnover with seven seconds left. An English Valleys time-out with three seconds set up the game winning play as Melissa Caster found Jensen open on the right wing for the game-winning three-pointer. The game-winning three-pointer was the only time the Bears led in the game.


Jensen led English Valleys with 14 points and seven rebounds while Melissa Caster added 11 points and four assists. Tarrah Cullen led Fort Madison Aquinas with 20 points.

English Valleys (28-0) faces third-ranked Hinton in the 1A semifinals Wednesday at 8 p.m. Fort Madison Aquinas ends its season at 24-3.
