Springville's first trip to the state tournament will continue for at least one more game.

 

   The sixth-ranked Orioles jumped ahead early, stayed in front the rest of the way and ended Holy Trinity's unbeaten season with a 69-59 victory in a first-round Class 1A game.

   Springville has no seniors but played like tournament veterans while improving to 23-3 and for the season.

 

   Katie Eiben led the Orioles with 20 points, getting 14 in the second half after shooting just 1-for-6 in the first half. Callie Kloubec added 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Sarah Davidson scored 14. Eiben also had six steals.

 

   Third-ranked Holy Trinity, formed when Fort Madison Aquinas and West Point Marquette merged, finishes with a 26-1 record. The Crusaders got 19 points from Megan Wagner, 15 from Cameron Wilkens and 14 from Sara Fedler.

 

   And they didn't go quietly, even after Springville opened a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter. Holy Trinity chipped away and got to within seven points on three occasions. But Springville answered each time with free throws.

 

   Springville scored 11 straight points at the free throw line before Eiben got behind the defense for a layup with for the final points.

 

   Carly Martin had six points, six assists, three blocks and two steals for Springville.

 

   Wilkens and Jessica Panther each grabbed nine rebounds for Holy Trinity. Emily Fullenkamp handed out six assists.
