With the score tied and the clock about to run out in overtime, all Sioux City Bishop Heelan needed was a point.

So the Crusaders gave the ball to their Division I college recruit and she delivered.

Michelle Lund drew a foul on a drive to the basket with nine-tenths of a second left and sank the first of her two free throws to give Heelan a 50-49 victory over Ballard in the Class 3A semifinals Thursday night.

The third-ranked Crusaders rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to get the game into overtime and will take a 24-2 record into the championship game against No. 1 Pella at 6 p.m. Saturday. Both teams are in the finals for the first time.

Second-ranked Ballard (23-3) tied the score at 49 with 1:52 left in overtime when freshman Taylor Greenfield, a right-hander, threw in a running shot with her left hand, was fouled and made the free throw.

The Bombers' Amanda Zimmerman picked off a Heelan pass seconds later and Ballard worked the clock until Jessie Wheeler drove to the basket. But Heelan's Millie Niggeling blocked the shot and the ball went off Wheeler and out of bounds, giving the Crusaders possession with 28.7 seconds remaining.

Heelan then held the ball until Lund, who has signed with Bradley, made her drive to the basket.

Ballard had the last shot in regulation, but Wheeler missed a 3-pointer from the left corner. Zimmerman got the rebound, but couldn't get the ball back up before the buzzer sounded.

Lund, who has signed with Bradley, finished with 15 points to lead Heelan, which got back into the game by making seven of nine shots in the third quarter. Niggeling scored 14 points and Carli Tritz added 10.

Heelan shot 69 percent (11-for-16) after halftime and 54 percent for the game.

Zimmerman led Ballard with 16 points, all in the first half. Ally Jensen scored 11 and McKinsey Nessa 10.
