Top-ranked Urbandale survived a shootout with Iowa City West to advance to the State Championship game with a 2-1 victory over the Women of Troy.
The J-Hawks struck first when Kim Hibbert scored on a Kara Hanlon assist with nine minutes remaining in the first half. The Women of Troy tied the score six minutes into the second half when Marla Froelich headed in an Avery Bang cross.
Iowa City West outshot Urbandale, 12-6, in regulation but the J-Hawks received an outstanding performance in goal from Tessa Prati who had nine saves and stopped four consecutive Women of Troy shots in the shootout. Hanlon and Hibbert scored shootout goals for Urbandale.
Urbandale (24-0) puts its perfect record on the line against nearby Des Moines Roosevelt at 3 p.m. this afternoon.. Iowa City West (17-3) faces Iowa City High this afternoon in the third place match at 2:30 this afternoon.
