Iowa City High 1, Dubuque Wahlert 0


Rose McAndrew's goal with five minutes left in regulation ended Dubuque Wahlert's chances of the a third-straight state soccer title as Iowa City High topped the Golden Eagles 1-0 in first round State Soccer action.

Iowa City High, making its first-ever state appearance, made the most of its scoring opportunity as Wahlert controlled possession of the ball for much of the match before Susan Yagla found McAndrew for the game-winning goal. Wahlert outshot the Little Hawks, 16-4.

Friday's match marked the third time the two squads have met this season. Iowa City won the initial meeting , 2-0, while Wahlert won the regular season finale 2-0.

EB Slouka recorded 10 saves for City High while Kate Stoffel had eight for the Golden Eagles.

The Little Hawks (17-2) face Des Moines Roosevelt at 9 a.m. Saturday in the state semifinals.

Dubuque Wahlert ends its season at 15-4 and had a six-match win streak at state.
