Sixth-ranked Iowa City West advanced to the Class 1A semifinals with a 1-0 shootout victory over No. 3 Bettendorf at the State Soccer Tournament.

Iowa City West won the shootout 4-3, with both teams using 10 shooters. Erica Clark's goal gave West the go-ahead goal while West goalkeeper Andrea Gebelein stopped Leslie Sullivan's shot to give West the victory.

The shootout victory marks the second-consecutive shootout the Women of Troy have competed in at state competition. They lost a shootout to Dubuque Wahlert 2-1 in last year's state title game.

Iowa City West missed a golden opportunity to win in regulation when Christen Karniski's penalty shot hit the post.

Iowa City West outshot Bettendorf, 20-5, but Bettendorf stayed alive by an outstanding performance from Colleen Porter, who had 10 saves.

Iowa City West moves to 17-2 while Bettendorf ends the year 17-3. West faces top-ranked Urbandale in the semifinals Saturday at 9 a.m.
