2005 Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament

Class 1A Championship – Dubuque Wahlert 2, Cedar Rapids Xavier 1

Dubuque Wahlert scored two first half goals and held off a second half Cedar Rapids Xavier rally to capture its fourth girls state soccer title with a 2-1 victory over last year's defending champions.

Wahlert scored two goals in a two-minute span midway through the first half. Leslie Schumacher scored 12;50 into the match while Alexia Murray added the Golden Eagles second goal at 19:40 into the match. Rachel Oswald assisted on both goals.

Cedar Rapids Xavier controlled the ball for much of the second half with Suzy Levett scoring on a Sara Clancy assist. The Saints had several other scoring chances but failed to capitalize.

Dubuque Wahlert wins its fourth state title and first since 2002. The win also avenged last year's 2-1 loss to Xavier in last year's 1A state title match. Cedar Rapids Xavier ends the year with an 18-3 record.
