Defending 1A champion Cedar Rapids Xavier opened its title defense in overpowering fashion as Morgan Showalter and Bailey Dorrington both scored three goals to lead the second-ranked Saints past No. 8 Council Bluffs St. Albert, 6-0, in first round play at the Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine.

Xavier's explosive offense outshot Council Bluffs St. Albert 41-4, scoring three goals in each half. Showalter opened the scoring in the match's opening minute. The Saints then added two goals in the last 72 seconds of the first half then opened the second half by scoring in the first 40 seconds. Ali Schmitt assisted on two Xavier goals while Courtney Hansen assisted on another.

Cedar Rapids Xavier, 17-2, faces No. 3 Pella Friday at 4:15 p.m. in the Class 1A semifinals. Council Bluffs St. Albert ends its season at 13-7.
