Cedar Rapids Xavier 5, Pella 1

 

Morgan Showalter scored three goals with one assist to lead second-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier past No. 3 Pella, 5-1, in the Class 1A semifinals of the Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine.

 

Showalter's  three goals gives her six in two state tournament games. She opened the scoring for the Saints at the 19 minute mark of the first half.

 

Pella tied the score with 5:20 left in the first half on a goal from Beatriz Mate-Kodjo.

 

Pella dominated the second half with four goals. Showalter struck first with a goal three minutes into the half. Bailey Dorrington added her fourth goal of the tournament eight minutes later while Beth Samek and Showalter rounded out the Xavier scoring.

 

Cedar Rapids Xavier will attempt to defend its 1A title against top-ranked Dubuque Wahlert in the 1A state title match at 11 a.m.

 

Pella ends its season at 18-1..
