Courtney Stoermer's 18-foot shot with 3:28 remaining lifted defending champion Iowa City West to a 2-1 victory over Dowling Catholic in the Class 2A first round match at the Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine.

Stoermer's goal keyed a second half Women of Troy rally that saw the Women of Troy fight back from a 1-0 first half deficit.

Dowling Catholic scored the lone goal in the first half when Heidi Roche scored with 9:40 remaining in the first half.

Iowa City West tied the score when Jackie Kaeding converted a penalty kick at the 43 minute mark of the second half.

Iowa City West moves on to the Class 4A semifinals to face top-ranked West Des Moines Valley at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Dowling Catholic ends its season at 10-3
