Johnston spoiled Muscatine's State Soccer Tournament debut, scoring three goals in the second half to trip up the Muskies, 3-0, in the first round of the Class 2A Girls State Soccer Tournament.

Muscatine gave last year's Class 2A runner-up all it could handle as the two teams battled to a scoreless first half.

The Dragons broke the scoring drought seven minutes into the second half when Keni Schroeder knocked in a nice crossing pass from Leslie Ware.

Taylor Vestal added another goal at the 63 minute mark. The Dragons scored their final goal with one second remaining when Tiffany Wendel scored on a Schroeder assist.

Johnston outshot Muscatine 16-12.

Johnston faces Pleasant Valley in the 2A semifinals Friday at 6 p.m. Muscatine ends its season at 13-6.
