Pleasant Valley 2, Johnston 1

 

Teresa Prais scored one goal and assisted on another to lead Pleasant Valley to the Class 2A finals of the Class 2A Soccer Championship with a 2-1 victory over Johnston Saturday morning at the Muscatine Soccer Complex.

 

Prais scored the Spartans' first goal of the match with four minutes left in the first half on an assist from Anna Aquino.

 

Johnston tied the score three minutes into the second half with an own goal as Kelsey Dicken's shot deflected off of the Pleasant Valley goalkeeper for the tally.

 

Sarah Schultz kicked in the gamewinner at the 63 minute mark, knocking a Prais pass.

 

Pleasant Valley outshot Johnston, 17-5,

 

Pleasant Valley advances to its first state title game this afternoon, facing top-ranked West Des Moines Valley at 1 p.m.

 

Johnston, last year's runner-up in Class 2A, ends its season at 12-7.
