Dubuque Wahlert 3, Waverly-Shell Rock 1

 

 

Top-ranked Dubuque Wahlert set up a rematch of last year's Class 1A state championship game as the Golden Eagles topped fifth-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock 3-1 in the 1A semifinals at the Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine.

 

Alexia Murray, Tessa Peterson and Kelsey Strienz all scored goals for the Golden Eagles, who improve to 20-1 overall. Murray scored Wahlert's first goal in the first three minutes of the match.

 

Waverly-Shell Rock scored its only goal with 1:54 remaining when Jen Green scored on a Laura Colby assist.

 

Dubuque Wahlert advances to the Class 1A state championship to face Cedar Rapids Xavier. Xavier beat Wahlhert in last year's title game, 2-1.
