2005 Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament

Top-ranked West Des Moines Valley lived up to its lofty ranking, scoring five goals in the first half en route to an 8-0 victory over Sioux City North in the first round of the Class 2A Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine.

The Tigers, the only unbeaten team in the Class 2A field, wasted little time in scoring as Lindsay Vorland knocked in the first Valley goal 4:15 into the match. The Tigers didn't look back as they outshot the Stars, 19-3.

Kim Willyard and Alyssa Flamm led Valley with two goals apiece while Allie Rapp, Michelle Marshall and Deb Foss also added goals. Whitney Sharpe also added two assists for the Tigers.

West Des Moines Valley faces defending champion Iowa City West in the 2A semifinals Friday at 6:15 p.m. Sioux City North finishes the season 10-6.
