Class 1A Championship

Cedar Rapids Xavier 5, Waverly-Shell Rock 1

Cedar Rapids Xavier capped an unbeaten season with a dominating 5-1 victory over Waverly-Shell Rock in the Class 1A championship Saturday at Muscatine.

Bailey Dorrington and Megan Showalter again led the Saints, scoring two goals apiece with Jena McDermott adding the other goal for Xavier.

Dorrington started the scoring 10 minutes into the match on an assist from Ali Schmitt. The Saints added another goal four minutes later when Showalter scored on an Emily Mettenburg pass.

Xavier held a 3-0 lead until Leslie Willson scored for Waverly-Shell Rock in the 34^th minute.

Cedar Rapids Xavier outshot the Go-Hawks, 26-5.

Cedar Rapids Xavier wins its second Class 1A title in three years and become the first 1A team to finish the year unbeaten.

Waverly-Shell Rock, making its first appearance in the Class 1A finals, finishes its season at 18-2.
