West Des Moines Valley 1, Cedar Rapids Kennedy 0 (2OT – Shootout)

Top-ranked West Des Moines Valley's 38^th –consecutive victory may have been its toughest. The Tigers completed an undefeated season with a hard fought 1-0 double overtime victory over third-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the Class 2A State Championship in Muscatine.

Both teams were virtually even throughout regulation and overtime, thanks in part to strong goalkeeping from the Kennedy duo of Jenny Plagman and Rachel Spellerberg and West Des Moines Valley’s Ashley Costonzo, although Valley outshot the Cougars, 19-9. In the end, Valley won the match by winning the shootout 4-2.

West Des Moines Valley ends a remarkable season at 19-0. The Tigers allowed just four goals all season en route to their second-straight Class 2A title and the third in four years.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy ends its season at 17-3 in its first-ever state soccer appearance.
