Cedar Rapids Kennedy became the second Cedar Rapids school to win its state tournament debut, joining Cedar Rapids Jefferson with an impressive 4-0 victory over Bettendorf in first round action of the Iowa Girl State Soccer Tournament Thursday in Muscatine.

The third-ranked Cougars dominated – outshooting Bettendorf 23-8. Elise Reed and Kathy Tsamis led Kennedy with a goal and an assist apiece. Julianne Lord and Jade Grimm also scored goals for the Cougars, who improve to 16-2.

Kennedy will face fellow Mississippi Valley Conference member Iowa City West in the Class 2A semifinals at 6:15 Friday. West defeated Kennedy, 3-2, in a regular season match.
