Cedar Rapids Jefferson 2, Urbandale 1

Fifth-ranked Cedar Rapids Jefferson made its state soccer tournament debut a successful one as the J-Hawks edged fourth-ranked Urbandale, 2-1, in the first round of the Class 2A Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine.

Laura Wagner scored both Jefferson scores – the first coming unassisted 23:55 into the first half. She added her second goal 66:52 into the match off of a Molly Off assist.

Urbandale trimmed the Cedar Rapids Jefferson's lead in half with eight minutes remaining on an unassisted goal from Kala Negus.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson improves to 17-3 and faces top-ranked West Des Moines Valley in a Class 2A semifinal match Friday at 6 p.m. Urbandale ends its season at 15-4.
