Iowa City West 4, Ames 3 (2 OT)

 

Kelli Goodrich's goal with five minutes remaining in the second overtime lifted seventh-ranked Iowa City West to a 4-3 double overtime victory over ninth-ranked Ames in Class 2A first round action of the Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine Thursday.

 

Goodrich's goal culminated a wild back and forth game. Both team scored in the first three minutes of the match with Iowa City West's Jillian Chrischilles scoring in the match's first 90 seconds, only to have Ames' Natalie Hashemi-Toroghi counter with a goal sixty five seconds later. The two teams traded goals again with Goodrich scoring her first goal of the night while Ames' Joanna Eggert tied the score at 2-2 at the 14 minute mark of the first half.

 

Iowa City West broke the tie on a Courtney Stoermer goal 57:40 into the match only to have Ames Beth Bystrom send the game into overtime with a goal with three minutes remaining in regulation.

 

Ames outshot the Women of Troy, 16-13.

 

Iowa City West will meet MVC Conference rival Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the Class 2A semifinals Friday at 6:15 p.m. West defeated Kennedy, 3-2, during the regular season. Ames ends its season at 14-5.
