Class 2A Quarterfinals

 

West Des Moines Valley 9, Sioux City East 1

 

Seven different players, led by two goals apiece from Lindsey Vorland and Jessica Wiegert, scored goals for defending Class 2A champion West Des Moines Valley as the Tigers overwhelmed Sioux City East, 9-1, in first round action at the Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine.

 

Vorland scored the Tigers' first goal one minute into the match only to have Sioux City East tie the score on a break-away goal from Kelli Herman. The goal was just the second Valley had given up this season.

 

Vorland broke the tie with at the 19 minute mark, scoring the first of eight unanswered goals.

 

Alyssa Flamm, Whitney Sharpe, Elyse Gallas, Megan Songer and Lindy Shaw also scored goals for Valley, who have won 37-straight matches.

 

West Des Moines Valley improves to 17-0 and faces Cedar Rapids Jefferson Friday at 6 p.m. in the Class 2A semifinals.  Sioux City East ends the year at 10-4-2.
