Dubuque Wahlert 4, Lewis Central 1

 

Erin McDonald had two goals to lead defending Class 1A champion Dubuque Wahlert to a 4-1 victory over eighth-ranked Lewis Central in Class 1A first round action of the Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine.

 

The Golden Eagles scored two goals in a 60 second span in the first half and never looked back. Kaitlyn Burgmeier opened the scoring with a goal 21:30 into the match. McDonald scored her first goal one minute later to give Wahlert a 2-0 lead at the half.

 

Emily Burgmeier scored the Golden Eagles' first goal of the second half unassisted with McDonald scoring her second goal at the 66 minute mark.

 

Katie Archibald scored the lone Lewis Central goal with two minutes remaining in the match.

 

Dubuque Wahlert improves to 14-4, advancing to the Class 1A semifinals to face third-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock Friday at 4:15 p.m.
