West Des Moines Valley 3, Cedar Rapids Jefferson 2
Top-ranked West Des Moines Valley held off a spirited Cedar Rapids Jefferson effort to advance to the Class 2A championship game for the second straight year with a 3-2 victory over the J-Hawks.
Lindsey Vorland scored two goals for the Tigers, who will be playing in their fifth state championship match Saturday. Darcey Noyce scored the other goal for the Tigers, who improve to 18-0.
Cedar Rapids Jefferson gave the Tigers all they could handle, tying the score at 1-1 on a Kandice Kiernan goal, only to have Valley retake the lead 30 seconds later on Vorland's first goal. The J-Hawks' Laura Wagner added another goal in early in the second half. The two goals were the most Valley had allowed all season.
West Des Moines Valley advances to the Class 2A finals Saturday at 1 p.m. Cedar Rapids Jefferson ends its season at 17-4.
