Class 2A Semifinal

Urbandale 2, Dubuque Wahlert 1

Top-ranked Dubuque Wahlert's quest for a fourth state title hit a roadblock in the Class 2A semifinals as Jessica Shively's two goals led Urbandale to a 2-1 upset victory over the Golden Eagles.

Shively scored the go-ahead goal 10 minutes into the second half when Jackie Fox's shot bounced off Wahlert goalkeeper Laurie Trifone to the junior defender, who knocked it into the Wahlert net.

Wahlert struck first when all-stater Danielle Oswald's header from Stephanie May eluded Urbandale's Whitney Franker in the 17 minute mark of the first half.

Shively tied the score with eight minutes remaining in the first half when she scored on a Brittany Waddell assist.

Urbandale received a great game in goal from Franker, who talled 11 saves and survived a furious Wahlert rally in the last six minutes of the match.

Urbandale (18-2) advances to today's 2A championship match at 3 p.m.

Dubuque Wahlert suffers its first loss of the year to fall to 18-1 and will play at 2:30 this afternoon in the consolation contest.
