Cedar Rapids Kennedy 2, Ames

Kimmy Jones broke open a scoreless tie in the first minute of the second half to send third-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy back to Class 2A championship match with a 2-0 victory over Ames in the semifinals of the Girls State Soccer Tournament.

Jones unassisted goal was followed by Julianne Lord’s goal from Jade Grimm. For the second-straight night, the Cougars received a strong game in the net from goalkeeper Rachel Spellerberg.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy advances to the Class 2A championship match for a rematch with West Des Moines Valley Satuday at 1 p.m. Ames ends its year at 14-5.
