Cedar Rapids Xavier 6, Davenport Assumption 1

Top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier shook off a quick Davenport Assumption goal in the third minute of the match by scoring six unanswered goals of their own in a 6-1 first round victory over the Knights.

Xavier found itself down 1-0 when Liz Kadavy knocked in a Holly Miller pass in the third minute of the first half. Xavier answered with a tying goal three minutes later on an unassisted Bailey Dorrington goal. Colleen Bouchard and Morgan Showalter added first half goals to give the Saints a 3-1 halftime lead.

Showalter added a goal and an assist to lead the Saints in the second half. Suzy Levett and Ali Schmitt also scored goals for the Saints, who improve to 18-1 overall. The Saints also outshot Assumption 26-9.

Xavier plays fourth-ranked Norwalk in the Class 1A semifinals Friday at 4:00 p.m. on field three. Davenport Assumption ends its season at 9-7.
