Johnston 5, North Scott 0

Kate Nielsen scored three goals to lead fourth-ranked Johnston to a 5-0 victory over tournament first-timer North Scott in Class 2A first round action at the Girls State Soccer Tournament.

Jennifer Ross and Colleen Shannon both scored a goal and added an assist for the Dragons, who advanced to the semifinals for the third time in as many appearances.

Johnston will face CIML rival West Des Moines Valley in the Class 2A semifinals. Valley knocked off the Dragons, 2-0, in an April 12 regular season game.

North Scott finishes its season at 15-6.
