Fourth-ranked Norwalk sent fifth-ranked Dubuque Wahlert to its earliest state tournament exit in six seasons as the Warriors blanked the Golden Eagles, 2-0, in first round action of the Girls State Soccer Tournament Thursday.

Norwalk all-stater Jenny Clark opened the scoring for Norwalk on an unassisted Jenny Clark goal at the 17-minute mark of the first half. The Warriors then relied on a stingy defense that held Wahlert to just seven shots in the match. Norwalk added an insurance goal with five minutes remaining when Jordan Reece on a Katie Morrissey assist.

Norwalk (18-2) plays defending champion and top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier in the Class 1A semifinals at 4 p.m. Friday while Dubuque Wahlert, making its ninth-straight state tournament trip, ends its season at 13-5.
