Cedar Rapids Xavier 4, Davenport Assumption 0

Senior all-stater Morgan Showalter scored one goal and one assist to lead top-ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier to a 4-0 victory over 10^th-ranked Davenport Assumption in first round action at the Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament in Muscatine.

Showalter and the defending champs wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as the senior three-time all-state selection scored the Saints’ first goal 5:57 into the match. Catherine Bunting tallied the Saints second goal with 2:44 remaining in the first half on a nice cross from Megan Konchar.

Kathryn Mettenburg and Suzy Levett added goals for the Saints in the second half. For the match, Xavier outshot Davenport Assumption, 17-4.

Xavier (17-1) will face Waverly-Shell Rock in the Class 1A semifinals Friday at 4:00 p.m. Davenport Assumption ends its season at 10-6-1.
