Cedar Rapids Kennedy 3, Pleasant Valley 1

Second-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy outshot Pleasant Valley, 18-7 to stop Pleasant Valley, 3-1, in first round action in the Class 2A Iowa Girls State Soccer Tournament Thursday night in Muscatine.

The Cougars (16-2) jumped on Pleasant Valley early when Jade Grimm scored seven minutes, nine seconds into the first half. The Cougars added two more goals in the second half from McKenna Feltes and Breanna Hawley.

Pleasant Valley (15-3) scored its only goal on a penalty kick from Katy Wendt.

Cedar Rapids Prairie meets Johnson in the Class 2A semifinals Friday at 6:00 p.m.
