plus the next 12 highest scores from all regional meets will advance to the
state meet. A mandatory panel of
seven diving judges will be utilized.
Three of the judges will be contracted by the IGHSAU with meet
management responsible for securing the additional four judges.
Limitations: An athlete is allowed to participate in
12 meets against varsity competition during a season, but shall never be
charged with more than one meet on a calendar day. If the athlete swims junior
varsity and varsity on the same day they are charged with one meet. Schools can
host diving-only meets in order for divers to participate in 12 meets.

Iowa Adaptations

minute break following the 500 Freestyle, if four or more teams.
(This
break is in addition to the break following the 50 Freestyle.)
Rule
5-1-3: A mandatory 15
minute break following the 500 Freestyle.
(This break is in addition to the break following
the 50 Freestyle.)
Rule
3-1-1: Applies to
regular season only. At the regional meet each school may enter three
participants for individual events and one relay team for each relay event.
Mascot/Nickname
(Clarification of Rule 3-3-1):
Member schoolsÕ athletic teams may only utilize one mascot/nickname. Schools
involved in a cooperative sharing agreement must compete under the host school
districtÕs adopted nickname and/or mascot.
Diving
Points: The
Iowa Department of Health made a ruling that diving boards may be replaced on
pools with water depth of 10-12 feet.
However, the replacement of a complete diving stand will not be
permitted unless the water depth is 12 feet. This would be a violation of Iowa Code (641 IAC Chapter 15).
In an effort to provide consistency and
accuracy in handling the scoring of meets when diving in not held, this serves
as written notice as per Rule 9-1 Penalty 2. (When diving is not conducted
because of inadequate water depth and written notice is given to the opponents
at least two weeks prior to the first home meet or a date specified by the
state association, diving is not conducted and no points are awarded.)
Iowa
code does not allow the following sites to replace the diving stand due to having
less than 12 feet of water.
Therefore, Diving will not be held and no points awarded at the
following sites:
Ankeny,
CR Prairie-Williamsburg, Davenport Central, Des Moines East, Des Moines Hoover,
Des Moines North, Indianola, Lewis Central, Ottumwa, Perry, Southeast
Polk, Spencer, Storm Lake, Vinton-Shellsburg.
At
all other schools diving will be held and points will be scored accordingly.
If the diving situation at your school has changed, please contact the IGHSAU
immediately.
Best
of luck in 2008,
Jason Eslinger
