Concussion
Management: As mandated by Iowa law, the parent/guardian of each student
will be provided a concussion and brain injury information sheet. This sheet,
which can be downloaded by clicking here,
must be signed by both the student and studentÕs parent/guardian and returned
to the studentÕs school prior to the studentÕs participation in any
extracurricular interscholastic activity for grades seven through twelve.
Regional
Meet: Regional diving meets will be held on Thursday, October 27
with regional swimming meets held on Saturday, October 29th.
Regional swimming and diving sites will be comprised of the same teams. Divers will perform 11 dives. The top four divers from each regional
plus the next 12 highest scores from all regional meets will advance to the
state meet. A mandatory panel of
seven diving judges will be utilized.
Three of the judges will be contracted by the IGHSAU with meet
management responsible for securing the additional four judges.
Limitations: An
athlete is allowed to participate in 12 meets against varsity competition
during a season, but shall never be charged with more than one meet on a
calendar day. If the athlete swims junior varsity and varsity on the same day
they are charged with one meet. Schools can host diving-only meets in order for
divers to participate in 12 meets.
11 Dive Meets: 11-dive
meets are allowed at dual meets. The host school must contact and have mutual
consent from the opposing school prior to the date of the meet. The host school
is also responsible for contacting officials prior to the dual meet.
Power
Point Submissions: Coaches must utilize the online power point
system to record athletesÕ performances and team power points. The online
system is ready and posted on the IGHSAU website for coaches to begin putting in
schedules and rosters. The username and passwords have not changed from last
season.
The online system has already deleted 2010
seniors and updated the grades of the 2010 underclassmen, but coaches will need
to log-in and delete anyone from the system that is no
longer part of the swim team and add newcomers (freshman) to the roster. Coaches
need to put in their entire roster and entire
meet schedule into the online system prior to your first meet. Schools that run their meets using Hy-Tek should upload meet results into the online power
point system. Coaches are reminded to log-in to
their team page and verify all times.
Instructions
for using the power point/performance can be found in the swimming portion of
the IGHSAU website or by clicking here.
Instructions
for importing Hy-Tek results into the power point
system can be found in the swimming portion of the IGHSAU website or by
clicking here.

this online form. The form is located in the Personnel Entry Forms section of
the website. It is password protected and your AD should have your username and
password to access this form.
Personnel
Entry Forms: Reminder that the Personnel Entry Forms are online.
All forms can be downloaded from the IGHSAU web page by clicking the ÒOnline
personal entry formsÓ link on the right-hand side of the webpage under ÒForms
& Applications.Ó You will need a password to access the online forms, which
you can get from your Athletic Director. There are four forms that need to be
filed with the respective site/office for regional and state competition. These
forms will be available in late August. Please contact your athletic director
in order to complete the forms on time.
Officials
Registration: Officials, please be sure you are registered as a girls official for the 2011 season. A list of the 2011
registered officials can be viewed by clicking here. If
your name is not listed and you feel it should be, please call the IGHSAU as
soon as possible.
Officials
Locker: Swimming
and diving officials are required to have an online locker set up to be
considered for officiating regional and state events. All regional and state meet assignments, as
well as contracts, will now be sent via e-mail through the lockers this season.
Instructions for setting up your locker can be found on the IGHSAU website.
Please contact the IGHSAU if you need any help setting up your locker.
Officials
Uniforms: Beginning this
fall, officials working girls regional and state swimming and diving meets will
be required to wear a white shirt with khaki pants. The white shirt and khakis
are not required during the regular season, however, if two or more officials
are working, they need to wear the same uniform. Officials may wear the
all-white uniforms during the regular season.
Jewelry during warm-ups: Coaches, please emphasize to your athletes to
remove all jewelry before they begin warm-ups. This is done for the safety of
all swimmers and divers. If a
contestant is discovered wearing jewelry during warm-ups, the meet officials
should instruct the athlete to remove the jewelry before continuing with
warm-ups. If the contestant does not comply with removing the jewelry, she is
withheld from warm-ups and the athleteÕs coach is notified. With lanes
traditionally being filled with contestants during the pre-meet and post-diving
warm-up sessions, the potential for injury increases significantly. Ultimately, the coach is responsible making
sure their athletes do not report for warm-ups or competition wearing jewelry
and that each swimmer/diver is in proper attire. Officials should be sure
to review this during the pre-meet conference between officials and coaches.
Medical Alert Medals: A reminder that medical alert medals are not
considered jewelry. The medals must be taped to the body and the medal may be visible.
Iowa
Adaptations
Rule 5-1-2b: A
mandatory 15 minute break following the 200-Freestyle
Relay, if four or more teams are
competing. (This break is in addition to the break following the 50
Freestyle.)
Rule 5-1-3: A
mandatory 15 minute break following the 200 Freestyle
Relay. (This break is in addition to the break following the 50 Freestyle.) The adaptation to Rule 5-1-3 establishes that
there is a mandatory 15-minute break following the 200 Freestyle Relay in championship meets. A second
break is not required in dual meets.
Rule 3-1-1: Applies to
regular season only. At the regional meet each school may enter three
participants for individual events and one relay team for each relay event.
Rule 9-4-6 Rotating Dive Schedule: In an
effort to reflect the needs of developing divers, the rotating dive schedule
has expanded to allow two weeks for the first group of forward dives. The
following is the revised diving schedule:
Weeks 1-2
(August 22-Sept. 4) - Forward
Group
Week 3
(Sept. 5-11) – Back Group
Week 4
(Sept. 12-18) – Inward Group
Week 5
(Sept. 19-25) – Twisting Group
Week 6 (Sept.
26-Oct. 2) – Reverse Group
Diving
Points: The Iowa Department of Health made a ruling that
diving boards may be replaced on pools with water depth of 10-12 feet. However, the replacement of a complete
diving stand will not be permitted unless the water depth is 12 feet. This would be a violation of Iowa Code
(641 IAC Chapter 15).
In an effort to provide consistency and accuracy
in handling the scoring of meets when diving in not held, this serves as
written notice as per Rule 9-1 Penalty 2. (When diving is not conducted because
of inadequate water depth and written notice is given to the opponents at least
two weeks prior to the first home meet or a date specified by the state
association, diving is not conducted and no points are awarded.)
Iowa code does not allow the following sites to
replace the diving stand due to having less than 12 feet of water. Therefore, Diving will not be held and
no points awarded at the following sites:
Ankeny
Davenport Central
Des Moines East
Des Moines Hoover
Des Moines North
Indianola
Lewis Central
Ottumwa
Perry
Spencer
Storm Lake
Tipton
Vinton-Shellsburg
At all other schools diving will be held and
points will be scored accordingly. If the diving situation at your school has
changed, please contact the IGHSAU immediately.
REMINDER: The schools listed above may still have diving
competitions if the diving competition is held at a site that has the required
water depth.

the website daily for updates & register to receive e-mail updates – Coaches and officials are advised to
