2007 Iowa Girls State Volleyball Tournament

Class 3A First Round – Wednesday, November 7

Sioux City Bishop Heelan 19-25-25-25, Dubuque Wahlert 25-21-15-17

Defending 3A champion Sioux City Bishop Heelan received 14 kills and 15 digs from Mindy Moody as the Crusaders stopped Dubuque Wahlert, 3-1, in Class 3A first round action.

Heelan’s service game was the story as the Crusaders served up 18 aces in the four game match. Carli Tritz had eight to lead Heelan while three other players had three or more aces. Moody’s 14 kills led the Crusaders’ net play while Carli Tritz and Kayla Karpuk each added eight.

Dubuque Wahlert’s first round loss marks the first time the Golden Eagles have lost in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament in its record 27 appearances. Wahlert was led by Caitlin Kouba’s 13 kills.

Bishop Heelan advances to the Class 1A semifinals Friday at 1:00 p.m. Wahlert ends its season at 22-15.
