Cedar Falls continued
its rough road through Class 4A as the sixth-ranked Tigers survived their
third-straight five game match by knocking off fifth-ranked Bettendorf, 3-2, in
first round action at the State Volleyball Tournament in Cedar Rapids.
The Tigers, who defeated
fourth-ranked Waterloo East and eighth-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy in five-game
matches in its road to state, were led by Nina SavageŐs 17 kills and five ace
serves. Caitlin Hagarty added 16 kills while Brianne Hutchins added 14.
Senior Lauren McKissick
was a force for Bettendorf at the net. The senior knocked down a game-high 25
kills with 18 digs in a losing cause. Megan Dunlavy added 18 kills.
Cedar Falls, last yearŐs
Class 4A runner-up, improves to 31-11 and advances to FridayŐs 4A semifinal
match at 1:00 p.m. Bettendorf ends its season at 28-7.
