Class 4A First Round

Ankeny 25-25-25, Dubuque Hempstead 13-19-14

Ankeny’s trio of Hannah Johnson, Chelsey Semprini and Johanna Ruff combined for 28 of Ankeny’s 44 kills as the top-ranked Hawkettes made quick work of Dubuque Hempstead in a 3-0 victory in Class 4A first round action at the State Volleyball Tournament in Cedar Rapids.

The Hawkettes (35-3) hit .337 as a team while limiting Hempstead to a hitting efficiency of .112. Semprini was especially deadly at the net, converting 9 of her 13 kill attempts with no errors.

Dubuque Hempstead was led by Abby Nauman’s 8 kills. The Mustangs end their season at 27-12.
