2007 Iowa State Volleyball Tournament
Class 4A Semifinals – Friday, November 9, 2007
Cedar Falls 25-25-21-18-21, Ankeny 23-11-25-25-19
Another day, another
five set match. For the fourth consecutive match, Cedar Falls went down to the
wire and, for the fourth consecutive time, prevailed. The sixth-ranked Tigers
advanced to the Class 4A title match for the second-straight year by stunning
top-ranked Ankeny, 3-2.
The Tigers looked like
they might take the top-ranked Hawkettes out in three games, winning the first
two while taking a quick lead in the third game before the Hawkettes won games
four and five to force a deciding game five.
The fifth game was a
classic as both teams had match point opportunities before the Tigers took game
five, 21-19.
Nina Savage led Cedar
Falls with 21 kills, five ace serves and 12 digs while Caitlin Hagarty added 13
and Jessica Wingert knocked down 11 kills.
Ankeny was paced by
Hannah JohnsonÕs 17 kills while
Johanna Ruff added 12, Chelsey Semprini added 13 and Cathleen Andresen had 10.
This was the first five-game match of the season for the Hawkettes, whose only
loss against Iowa opponents during the regular season was a set-back to Western
Christian.
Cedar Falls will play in
the 4A title game at noon Saturday. Ankeny ends its season at 35-4.
