2007 IOWA VOLLEYBALL RULE ADAPTATIONS

 

 

National Federation Rules apply to all levels of interscholastic volleyball competition with the following exceptions:

 

  1. All varsity dual matches played in Iowa shall be 3 of 5 to 25 points with the deciding game to 15         

            points.

  1.  In varsity double-dual (triangular) matches, you may play the best 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 to 25 points with any deciding game played to 15 points.
  2. In a regular season tournament (three of more matches in one day)---All pool matches shall be 2 of 3 to 21 points with any deciding game to 15 points.  Semi-final and final round matches may be 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 to 25 points with the deciding game to 15 points.
  3. In sub-varsity competition:  Rally scoring must be used but point requirements and time limits shall be determined prior to the start of each match.  No scoring cap may be used.  Two time outs are allowed each game.  The winning team must win by two points.  The let serve shall be used.

 

 

Rule 3-2-3---The National Federation authenticating mark is not required on the ball.  The Tachikara SV5W or SV5WH ball shall be used during all district, regional, and state tournament play.  The home team shall provide any approved ball during the regular season.

All pre-game warm-up shall consist of a 5-6-6 format.  Both teams shall have five minutes together on their own half of the court for ball handling, passing, etc.  Then the visiting team is allowed 6 minutes of court time to hit, pass, receive, serve, etc.  Then the home team is similarly allowed six minutes of court time to hit, pass, receive, serve, etc.  There shall be no mutual serving time----serving shall be done within each teamÕs allotted six minutes.

 

Rule 12-2-5 BENCH DECORUM---Coaches must remain in the area bounded by either side of their normal team bench during play.  A coach may stand or be seated during a match.  Only one coach is allowed to be standing during play---kneeling or squatting in front of the team bench is prohibited.  A coach shall be no closer to the playing area during play than the position of the umpire.  Violation of these procedures shall result in a card sanction.

 

UNIFORM ADAPTATIONS:  In addition to  Rule 4-2-1---All players (except Libero) on a team shall wear uniform tops that are identical in color and style (tie-dye are illegal). A  uniform top shall not be rolled, taped, knotted, etc. if it interferes with the visibility of the uniform number in the judgment of the official.  Waistbands may be rolled down.  Wristbands may be worn---one per arm worn below the elbow, not more than four inches wide, and consisting of a single, solid color.  All teammates choosing to wear wristbands must be the same color.  Headbands may be worn---must be a single, solid color not more than two inches wide and must be the same color for all teammates.  Wristbands and headbands may have a manufacturerÕs logo not to exceed 2 ¼ square inches.

Besides the number required in 4-2-3, the only adornment/identification allowed on the uniform top is up to two identifying names or abbreviations on either the front and/or back of the uniform top.  (ieÉup to two names on the front and two more names on the back).  The Arabic-style names(s) may include the word ÒvolleyballÓ, identify the school,. school mascot, school nickname, or playerÕs name.

SUB-VARSITY UNIFORMS---At the sub-varsity and junior high levels of competition, allowances shall be made when teams are using uniforms which may not conform exactly to all uniform requirements.  Many schools are using hand-me-down uniforms or practice jerseys in an effort to allow all players an opportunity to participate.  Latitude shall be given to those teams whose uniforms are the same basic color but may have some variations in style, design, trim, numbers, etc.

Beginning in 2008---(varsity) all two digit numbers beginning with 0  are illegal.
