Coaches – Send in your scores: Thanks to all coaches that have e-mailed and phoned in scores.  Coaches can e-mail match results to Jason Eslinger at jasoneslinger@ighsau.org. Feel free to include any highlights from your games as IÕll try to include interesting info from games. I would also greatly appreciate it if you would please include your overall record when you report your results. It is a big help in trying to compile rankings.

QuikStats Online For Volleyball: 153 schools are currently using QuikStats. I would like to see more schools using the program. If you donÕt have your username, please e-mail Jason Eslinger at jasoneslinger@ighsau.org.

Site Availabilities Online: The list of schools that have made their gyms available to host district/regional games is currently on the web. If your school is not listed, please see your AD so the online form can be processed. All site availabilities should be completed by September 7 as postseason assignments are being made now.

Stat Questions:  I have a number of questions in regards to some stat questions. The two asked the most are definitions of a block and an assist.  The official definition of a block: ÒA block occurs when an attack is immediately returned to the attackerÕs side and scores a point for the defending team. If only one defender blocks the ball, a block solo is given to that player. If two or three players are involved in the block, all players participating in the block are given a block assist. In order to participate in a block, a player must be a front-row player and have jumped from the floor. It is not necessary for a player to actually touch the ball. Players in the block must be close enough together so that the attacker must take them into consideration when making the block attempt. Source: NFHS Statisticians Manual

There has also been some questions on what constitutes an assist. A player is awarded an assist whenever that player passes, sets or digs the ball to a teammate who attacks the ball for a kill. Every kill is accompanied by an assist or is unassisted. Source: NFHS Statisticians Manual.  A team should also never have more assists than kills.

The NF Stat Manual is, unfortunately, not available online, but the NCAA has its volleyball stat manual available in a downloadable PDF format. You can access it by clicking here.

Pairings Next Week: Look for district & regional volleyball pairings late next week.
