VOLLEYBALL---2008
BALL---Colored volleyballs may be used. The ball may have up to three colors,
one of which must be white. It is
still permissible to use a totally white ball. During the regular season, a school may use any legal
ball. The tournament ball that
must be used is the Spalding TF 5000.
During District and Regional tournaments, the host site will provide the
game volleyballs that may be multi-colored (up to three colors, one of which
must be white) or may be all white.
LINE JUDGES---It is RECOMMENDED that adults or licensed
officials (may be high school students) be used as line judges for all varsity
competition (including Saturday tournaments). Adults MUST be used for all District and Regional
tournaments. The IGHSAU will
continue to provide licensed officials to serve as line judges during the final
two rounds of the Regional tournament.
FLAGS---The Advisory Committee recommended that line
judges be required to use flags in all high school matches. This recommendation was not approved by
the Board. It will continue to be
optional, however, flags will be used at the State Tournament.
LINE-UP SHEETS---A line will be added to write the number
of the captain for that game.
SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD---There will no longer be an overall
team sportsmanship award presented at the conclusion of the state
tournament. Instead, each state
qualifying team will be required
to select one adult from their community who consistently displays and
represents positive sportsmanship.
Immediately prior to the first match each team plays at the state
tournament, a brief ceremony will be held to recognize the selected fan. A certificate will be awarded along
with a $250 scholarship to each schoolÕs scholarship fund.
