Waverly-Shell Rock 25-25-25, North Scott 18-17-17

 

2011 Class 3A champion Waverly-Shell Rock picked up where they left off last year as the Go-Hawks cruised past North Scott, 25-18, 25-17, 25-17  in Class 4A first round play at the Iowa Girls State Volleyball Tournament Wednesday night.

 

A balanced Go-Hawk attack saw six players with four or more kills in the match, led by Mattie Gray’s six. Waverly-Shell Rock also had 12 service aces with Elena Gray recording four.

 

North Scott, making its first State Tournament appearance since 1986, was led by Emily Hermiston’s 10 kills. The Lancers end their season at 27-6.

 

Waverly-Shell Rock (45-7) faces top-ranked Charles City in the Class 4A semifinals at 1:45 p.m. on Court One. Three of the Go-Hawks’ seven regular season losses have been at the hands of the Comets.
