2005 Iowa Girls State Volleyball Tournament
CLASS 1A SEMIFINAL
Tripoli 3, Holy Trinity Catholic 2
Alicia Johnson and Tiffany Nilges combined for 63 kills to lead defending 1A champion back to the 1A title game for the eighth straight year as the top-ranked Panthers edged fifth-ranked Holy Trinity, 17-25, 28-26, 25-17, 23-25, 15-12 in a hard-fought 1A semifinal match.
Holy Trinity stunned Tripoli, 25-17, in game one and were a point away from taking a two games to none lead before the Panthers clawed out a 28-26 game two win. The Crusaders held a 10-9 lead in the deciding game before Tripoli put the match away.
Johnson finished with a Class 1A record 36 kills and 28 digs to lead the Panthers while Nilges was just as effective, knocking down 27 with five blocks.
Holy Trinity was led by Karla Steffensmeier's 19 kills while Emily Fullenkamp added 12.
Tripoli advances to the Class 1A title game to face Treynor or Galva-Holstein while Holy Trinity finishes its season at 36-7.
