Tripoli 3, Treynor 2
Tripoli won its third-straight Class 1A title and sixth in eight years with a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Treynor.
Treynor, behind the strength of all-tournament selections Anna Waymaster and Lea Hartigan, won the first two games 25-23, 25-23 before the Panthers mounted their comeback. Tripoli rallied to tie the match by taking the next two games, 25-14, 25-18. Tripoli led 10-4 in the deciding fifth game only to see the Cardinals claw back to tie the match and come within a point of winning it several times.
Alicia Johnson ended a splendid high school career with 35 kills, 16 digs and six ace serves while teammate Tiffany Nilges added 20 kills, 13 blocks and 19 digs.
Tripoli becomes the fourth school to win six or more state volleyball crowns, joining Dubuque Wahlert, Western Christian and Dike-New Hartford. Coach Teresa Kehe becomes just the third coach in state history to win six or more state titles, joining Dubuque Wahlert Coach Tom Keating (11) and Dike's Barb Bakker (7).
Tripoli ends its season at 32-7 while Treynor finishes the year 40-3.
