CLASS 2A QUARTERFINALS

Western Christian 3, North Butler 0

Four-time defending champion Western Christian took just 60 minutes to dispatch North Butler in its Class 2A first round match at the US Cellular Center.

The Wolfpack hit .300 as a team, led by Kate Buyert's 14 kills, to top the Bearcats, 25-12, 25-20, 25-23. Buyert led a balanced Western Christian attack that saw five players with six or more kills. Haylee Bakker was the other Western Christian player in double figures with 11 kills and eight digs while Betsy Van't Hul added eight kills with three service aces.

North Butler, making its first state tournament appearance, was led by Kate Heuer's nine kills,

Western Christian advances to the Class 2A semifinals Friday night to face Red Oak or Waterloo Columbus at 7:15 p.m.
