CLASS 2A QUARTERFINALS

 

Aplington-Parkersburg 3, Mediapolis 0

 

Top-ranked Aplington-Parkersburg lived up to its billing, hitting 39.3 percent as a team while recording a Class 2A record 17 service aces to sweep Mediapolis, 25-11, 25-17, 25-15 in a Class 2A first round contest.

 

The Falcons 17 service winner broke the Class 2A record of 16, set by Western Christian in the 2004 2A championship game.  Aplington-Parkersburg was formidable at the net with 23 blocks while forcing Mediapolis into a negative hitting percentage (-0.022).

 

Megan Schipper led Aplington-Parkersburg with 15 kills and seven service aces while Becky Walters added seven kills and four aces.

 

Mediapolis was led by Monica Holsteen's three kills.

 

Aplington-Parkersburg advances to the Class 2A semifinals to face Hinton Friday at 6 p.m.
