CLASS 3A QUARTERFINALS

Dubuque Wahlert 3, Winterset 0

Top-ranked and defending 3A champion Dubuque Wahlert proved to be too much for unranked Winterset as the Golden Eagles swept the Huskies, 25-7, 26-24, 25-7 in a Class 3A first round match in Cedar Rapids.

Kayla Banwarth led Dubuque Wahlert (37-3) with 11 kills, four service aces and 10 digs while teammate Lisa Heitkamp added eight. Wahlert hit .326 as a team while holding Winterset to just .014.

Jodi Purdy led Winterset with six kills. Winterset managed just 14 kills as a team.

Dubuque Wahlert advances to the Class 3A semifinals to face Sioux City Heelan at 1 p.m. Friday. Winterset ends its season at 27-13.
