CLASS 4A QUARTERFINALS

Ames 3, Cedar Rapids Kennedy 2

Ames spoiled Cedar Rapids Kennedy's first state tournament appearance in 16 years as the Little Cyclones won a hard-fought 25-19, 21-25, 27-25, 16-25, 15-10 match over the Cougars.

Three Ames' players reached double figures in kills, led by Marissa Banks' 17 kills. Meghan Hackerson added 15 while Katie Marsdan had 10.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy was led by Bethany Fuller's 14 kills while Ellie Blankenship chipped in 13.

Ames (31-10) will face Bettendorf in the Class 4A semifinals Friday at 2:15 p.m.
