With its two stars struggling, Center Point-Urbana needed someone to step up.

Bryn Hadsall and Peyton Kriegel filled that role nicely.

Hadsall hit a 3-pointer to break a tie in overtime and Kriegel drilled another from long range for the go-ahead points to help the fourth-seeded Stormin' Pointers turn back Waverly-Shell Rock 45-41 in the Class 4A quarterfinals.

Center Point-Urbana rallied from an 11-point deficit in the second half to get the game into overtime, then made the shots and plays they needed to reach the state tournament semifinal round for the fifth straight year. The Stormin' Pointers moved up a class this season after winning the 3A championship a year ago.   They'll try to get back to the title game when they face top-seeded North Scott at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Center Point-Urbana's top two scorers, Ryley Goebel and Adrianna Katcher, both found points hard to come by and shot a combined 3-for-19 for the field. But both contributed in other ways and the Pointers played good enough defense to keep Waverly-Shell Rock from getting too far ahead. They held the Go-Hawks without a point in the final 5:46 of regulation.   Katcher's 3-pointer, a high arching shot from the right corner, tied the score at 34 with 3:40 left and ended the scoring in regulation.  Hadsall finished with 14 points, while Katcher had 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Goebel, averaging 16.6 a game, scored only six on 1-for-6 shooting but came up with five steals, including one in the final seconds to secure the victory.

Abbie Draper led Waverly-Shell Rock with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kenzie Roling scored nine points and Britney Young had five points, six rebounds and four steals.  Hadsall's 3-pointer gave Center Point-Urbana a 37-34 lead with 3:53 left in the overtime. Waverly-Shell Rock regained the lead at 38-37 before Kriegel nailed her 3 from the right of the key to put her team ahead for good.   Hadsall and Katcher each sank two free throws in the final minute before Goebel stole the ball to thwart the Go-Hawks final hopes.

Center Point-Urbana moves on with a 22-2 record. Waverly-Shell Rock, which had won 20 straight since an early season loss to Center Point-Urbana, finishes 20-3.
