Highlights from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Board of Directors September meeting.

IGHSAU Advisory Committees

The following coaches were approved to serve on the following:

            Volleyball-Meg Jackson, Dallas Center Grimes

            Golf-Melissa Hochstetler, Panorama

            Softball-Katie Wedeking, Clarksville

Re-classification Request
Logan-Magnolia’s girls’ basketball team has been approved to play in Class 2A for the next two seasons.  Class 2A will have 81 schools due to the re-classification and no 2A teams will be moved down to 1A.

Girls’ Wrestling Post Season Adjustments
Directors approved a slight adjustment to the girls’ wrestling rules to allow more than the NFHS recommended guidelines of six matches per day during post season competition. If necessary, up to eight matches may be scheduled if there is a full bracket (32-person) in any weight class.  This would ensure enough flexibility to run this bracket if necessary while still allowing for double elimination and placing through 9th place.

A 30-minute rest time between rounds, as opposed to the 45-minute rest session that is utilized now has also been approved. This allows the tournaments to be done in a timely manner in one day (6-8 hours).

Golf Cell Phone Rule
Directors supported the Golf Advisory recommendation to align cell phone use rule with the range finder rule. “During competition cell phone use may result in disqualification, with the following offenses to follow following the first (warning), second (2-stroke penalty), and third offense (disqualification).”

Soccer Advisory Recommendations
No action was taken on two recommendations by the Soccer Advisory Committee:
 - soccer season revert back to the 2021 and previous years’ schedule;
 - allow six sessions of skill development after January 1
