Student Athlete Advisory Committee

The Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union is seeking female high school student-athletes to serve on the newly created Student Athlete Advisory Committee. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee will be an 11-member group of IGHSAU student-athletes that meet three times a year (via teleconference and in-person meetings). Members will act as the voice of Iowa's female student-athletes and serve as a student sounding board for the IGHSAU’s Representative Council and Board of Directors. In addition to assisting in the promotion of the educational value of interscholastic athletics, the committee will discuss issues dealing with academics, sportsmanship, safety (including health and nutrition) and student leadership.  Members will participate in leadership seminars, community service project(s) and will assist with selected State Tournament responsibilities. Members will also help create student surveys, facilitate local leadership events and provide feedback on a multitude of issues directly impacting female student-athletes. Two representatives will be selected from each of Iowa's four districts (NE, SE, NW, SW) with an additional three selected on an "at-large" basis.  Consideration for selection will include sports played, year in school, and competitive class.  Females grades 9-12 may apply (grade for 2018-19 school year). Members will be selected to two-year terms.  To be eligible for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, candidates must: - Complete official application (including completion of the short-answer questions) - Submit letter of recommendation from school administrator (preferably AD or principal) - Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) - Availability for scheduled teleconferences and in-person meetings In addition, candidates should show a history of leadership on athletic teams and other extracurricular activities, community service projects, or in the workplace; and show an understanding of the role of school sports and the value of participation for females For more information visit the Student Athlete Advisory Committee link on the IGHSAU website (ighsau.org).
